Treatment Collaboration

Collaboration is one of the most important keys to success in service provision for mental health treatment/therapy or services for people with disabilities.

Treatment collaboration is more than just having copies of assessments from other therapies remember that collaboration is sharing and aligning.  If there is a speech therapist working with the child, then developmental communication objectives should be supportive with the work by both therapists being mutually supportive.  This requires ongoing communication and in fact, collaboration.  If a child has a mental health or psycho-rehabilitation plan and an individualized education plan, then goals and objectives should be supportive of each other.  If the therapist and parent are not on the same page and supporting the work of the other or if any therapies or treatments are not collaborative and supportive, then it is probably a waste of time and money and a travesty for the child.  I say probably because there are some rare situation where one person with the child can overcome the profound influences of other disjointed interventions; but it is incredibly difficult and incredibly rare.
